DIY Mardi Gras Mantle Garland
DIY Mardi Gras Mantle Garland
This week our floral designer Tim created a gorgeous Mardi Gras Mantle Garland to usher in the Mardi Gras Season. The Mardi Gras Season is extremely short this year with Fat Tuesday on February 13, 2024. Now is the time to start planning to Laissez les bon temps rouler! Tim used one of our 9' pre-lit garlands for this design. He added Mardi Gras Deco Mesh, Floral Picks and Ribbon to complete the design. As always, you can adjust the materials used to fit your own personal taste and preference.
Supplies needed:
- (1) 9' Lighted Norway Pine Garland
- (1) 10" Mardi Gras Thin Metallic Stripes Mesh
- (1) 5' Mardi Gras Striped Glitter Ball Garland
- (6) 31" Mardi Gras Glittered Tubing Curl Spray
- (1) 2.5" Mardi Gras Glitter Diamond Check Ribbon
- (1) 2.5" Purple Fleur de Lis Mardi Gras Ribbon
- Scissors
- Wire Cutters
- Floral Wire
- First things first, to get started make sure you have gathered all of the necessary supplies.
- Tim began by placing the garland on the mantle and then fluffing the branches. Our Mantle is only 5ft long so he folded the ends in to double up the garland a little. Please keep this in mind when gauging how many supplies you will need for this project.
- Next Tim added the deco mesh to the garland to create a base. He started on one end of the garland and made his way down to the other end. He created poufs using the branches of the garland to tie the mesh down. He used almost the entire 10 yards that was on the roll.
- Now Tim will begin working with the Striped Ball Garland and adding it to our deco mesh base. Using a premade garland like this is a less expensive alternative to buying individual stems to place in the garland. He added the garland on top of the mesh and then began working it into the layers.
- To anchor the garland and add more texture, Tim added a large three loop bow to the left hand end of the garland.
- Tim then made several one loop bows to place throughout the garland. These add more texture to the garland and add additional pops of the Mardi Gras colors.
- Next he added our 6 floral stems. He worked these in near the back of the garland to add height and interest. He secured these using the branches on the garland. You can choose to hot glue them if you wish, but we did not
- Once you have added all of your florals you can come to a stopping point. You will have a gorgeous mantle garland that you can enjoy throughout the Mardi Gras season. We hope that you will follow along next week as we transform a Christmas Tree into a Mardi Gras Tree!!
